So when celebrating the 55th anniversary of the OG 44GS, the manufacturers in Shinshu pulled out all the stops. Meet the SBGY009, a thoroughly modern reinterpretation limited to just 1,500 pieces worldwide.

The basics remain - that signature 44GS case profile, expertly finished in stainless steel measuring 40mm across and a svelte 10.5mm thick. But the real star is the rich blue dial, inspired by tsuki tenshin - the beaming full moon at its highest over the Shinshu region. A sunray pressed pattern radiates dynamic sparkle with every tilt of the wrist.

Under that box sapphire crystal resides Grand Seiko's prestigious Spring Drive Caliber 9R31. Originally unveiled in 2019 for the movement's 20th anniversary, this hand-wound thoroughbred boasts a 72-hour power reserve via dual mainspring barrels, maintaining incredible accuracy despite its slender proportions.

A single bridge holds the finely-finished gears in place, diamond-cut edges intricately finished to perfection. Even the index for the power reserve has been moved to the caseback to preserve heritage symmetry on the dial side.
