Overview 

The Rolex Datejust 31 278240 carries the Calibre 2236, the version of Rolex's smaller-calibre movement family fitted with the silicon Syloxi hairspring, replacing the Parachrom-equipped Calibre 2235 of the previous generation. That silicon hairspring was part of Rolex's broader shift away from traditional alloy hairsprings, extended here to the 31mm case rather than reserved for the larger sports references. The result is a mid-size Datejust built to the same technical standard as the rest of the current catalogue, not a scaled-down afterthought.

The case is 31mm Oystersteel with the smooth, domed bezel polished to a mirror finish, a deliberate contrast to the fluted bezel variants within the same reference family. The dial is pink with a sunray finish and applied baton indices, a configuration that reads more contemporary than the Roman numeral or diamond-marker dials also offered on this reference. Date at 3 with Cyclops lens, no further complications. The three-link Oyster bracelet gives the watch a more structured, less dressed profile than the Jubilee option, and holds up better to daily wear.

The movement is the Calibre 2236, Rolex's automatic for its smaller-diameter models, with a Syloxi hairspring in silicon, Paraflex shock absorbers, and a 55-hour power reserve. Certified as a Superlative Chronometer to ±2 seconds per day.

Within the Datejust 31 range, the smooth bezel Oyster configuration sits at the more restrained end, next to the fluted bezel and Jubilee variants that carry a modest premium for the added metal and bracelet complexity. Pink dial examples have held demand better than several of the more common silver and white dial options, without commanding the premium of the rarer olive or mint green dials. We see this reference trading close to retail in preowned condition, narrower than the preowned-to-RRP gap on most current-production steel Rolex. This piece is preowned, excellent condition, complete original set with box and papers dated October 2025, at RM30,500, against an RRP of RM33,400.
