The Story
4OverviewÂ
The 36mm Datejust is the dimension the reference launched with in 1945 and has maintained as its core specification ever since — not because Rolex hasn't explored other sizes, but because 36mm sits at the precise point where a dress watch functions across the widest range of wrist sizes and contexts. The 126234 in blue with a fluted 18-carat white gold bezel is the most historically consistent configuration of that argument: the pairing of blue dial and white gold fluted bezel has defined the dressed Datejust for longer than any other combination in the reference's history. For a buyer deciding between the 36mm and 41mm, the choice is proportional — the 36mm is not a compromise, it is the original intent.
The case is 36mm Oystersteel with a fluted 18-carat white gold bezel — White Rolesor, pairing tool-watch steel with precious-metal bezel finishing. The blue sunray dial produces a tonal shift across the surface depending on the light angle; applied index hour markers throughout, Cyclops lens at 3 o'clock. The Jubilee bracelet — five-link construction, close-sitting — has been paired with the Datejust since 1945 and remains the correct bracelet for the dressed configuration.
The Calibre 3235 is Rolex's current-generation automatic — 70-hour power reserve, Chronergy escapement, Parachrom hairspring, certified as a Superlative Chronometer to ±2 seconds per day. It replaced the older 3135 and is now consistent across both the 36mm and 41mm Datejust range. Water resistance is 100 metres.
Blue is the most common dial colour in the 126234 range — abundant in the secondary market, immediately recognisable, and the configuration most buyers picture when they think of a Datejust. That ubiquity has a practical consequence: blue examples are the most liquid in the pre-owned market, which benefits buyers and sellers alike. Against slate and white dial options in the same White Rolesor configuration, blue carries less visual distinctiveness but stronger market recognition — the argument for it is clarity and consistency of purpose rather than rarity. Brand new, unworn, complete with box and papers dated May 2026, at RM54,000.
