Overview 

The El Primero that Zenith introduced in 1969 was not just an automatic chronograph; it was the fastest production chronograph movement available, beating at 5Hz (36,000 vph) when most competitors ran at 3Hz or 4Hz. That frequency gap was not marketing: it produced a chronograph capable of 1/10th second resolution from a standard automatic movement. The 03.3200.3600/21.C903 Chronomaster Original is the contemporary vehicle for that architecture; same column-wheel mechanism, same 5Hz frequency, same exhibition caseback, in a 38mm case that references the A386 proportions without literally reproducing them.

The dial is reverse panda: black ground with cream white subdials tracking the chronograph functions and constant running seconds. The sloped black flange carries a printed 1/10th second scale; read against the central chronograph hand, it resolves elapsed time to 1/100th of a second. Black baton hands on the subdials contrast against the cream registers; the main dial runs pointed, partially lumed baton hands. The combination is monochromatic in palette and high-contrast in execution.

The movement is the El Primero 3600 calibre, column-wheel automatic chronograph, certified to chronometer standard. At 5Hz, the chronograph achieves 1/10th second resolution without the complexity of a dedicated high-frequency mechanism; the frequency is the function. The exhibition caseback reveals rhodium-plated bridges with fine grinding and interior anglage: the decoration is consistent with the movement's historical standing rather than applied as an afterthought.

This example includes the original Zenith bracelet purchased separately from the authorised dealer by the original owner at RM4,000; it is included alongside the original box, papers, and strap. At RM26,000 against an RRP of RM46,500, the acquisition sits 44% below retail before factoring the bracelet's added value. We are currently seeing Chronomaster Original examples in complete-set condition trade in this range; the reverse panda execution is the most collector-referenced dial in the current lineup, and the bracelet inclusion makes this a particularly complete package at this price.
